Because I just did.
Apathetic DOT worker told me to pull forward after I said I was going to Bainbridge. Right when I boarded I knew I had made a mistake, as there was, inexplicably in my mind, a second ferry north of me. Oh ok, just like Edmonds, I thought: two ferries running at all times. There was a little green sign boarding the ferry, also partially blocked by a post, that read, “Bremerton.” Oh... they name of this boat... is the Bremer— .... NO."
I slept maybe three hours, haven’t eaten in 16, now I get to call this customer and say, “Yo I got on like... the wrong ferry... and stuff, but like... *sigh* could you buy stuff from me anyway?”

Could be worse. You could be on a ferry to Vashon because you went to the completely wrong dock. Maybe “flip a bitch” at Bremerton and hop right back on? I’ve only taken the Edmonds ferry over there to snag Celica parts from a buddy (closer to work in Bothell), so I’m not sure if it would be faster.

Fun fact: I’ll be in Seattle in a few weeks. Note to self: Don’t ride ferries.

No, just don’t take directions from Zoidberg on how to ride ferries. I highly recommend all visitors take a ferry once for the novelty of it, if you’ve never been.

Around here there's only one ferry, the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry (or just Jamestown Ferry, since Scotland is a tiny hamlet), and it only has two points. So no.

It’s an hour drive from Bremerton to Bainbridge so I’m just gonna eat it and drive (also it’ll be cheaper than another ferry pass — fucking 38 bucks round trip).

Would it have been any quicker to take the ferry back and take the right one?

No, and it would cost me another 38 dollars. I’ll be okay. Just figured that I’d fuck up like this today of all days.

The best way to do that is to drive North over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge (no toll that way), and ride one of the ferrys back to Seattle (half the price of Zoidberg’s folly).

I hadn’t thought about the fare. At least you got both a nice boat ride and drive out of the deal.

I don't understand why anyone other than shipyard workers take the Seattle-Bremerton Ferry. If you're heading south it's time neutral. If you're heading west Bainbridge is faster. If you're heading north Bainbridge is faster. Hell, if you're going to Bremerton itself it takes the same amount of time (30 minute ferry plus hour drive vs. 1.5 hour ferry). Always wondered why it wasn't a foot-traffic only ferry.

Never gotten on the wrong ferry, but I did miss a critical one, once. I was in the Navy, stationed in Groton, CT and it was Memorial Day Weekend. For the first time in a long time I had the whole long weekend off and a bunch of old friends I grew up with invited me to join them at Bethany beach in Delaware. One guy’s grandfather had a house there we could use, so all I had to do was show up and chip in for food/booze.
About this time my roommate had started talking to this girl from somewhere around Franklin, New Jersey and since he had the weekend off as well, he asked me if I could drop him off at her place on my way. Being the kind friend I was, I obliged. Well we get to her house in Jersey and her family kindly invites me to come in for a bit and take a break from the road. I get to talking with them and it turns out her father was a ferry Captain for the Cape May - Lewis Ferry. After discussing my weekend plans, hearing him extolling the virtues of the Cape May - Lewis ferry, and enticing me with a deeply discounted ticket, I am primed to take a relaxing boat ride and shave significant time off drive to Bethany.
There’s just one catch... it’s about a quarter past 4, the last Ferry leaves at 5, and Google maps says it’s gonna take me an hour and twelve minutes to reach the ferry terminal. I would not judge anyone for mistaking me for Colin McRae as I blasted through south-central Jersey in my WRX at speeds that were well north of rational, let alone legal. Still, there was traffic, stop lights, and other hazards to contend with. After a valiant effort, I came flying into the terminal just as the ramp was being hoisted and the ferry sounding it’s whistle to depart. There was a brief moment I considered jumping the ramp, but I thought it best not to chance, and resigned myself to my newly extended trip. I sent a text to my friends to let them know I’d be somewhat later than expected. A few minutes later my phone buzzes and I steal a glance at the screen..
“Geez Mark, you really missed the boat on that one” Thanks assholes. Thanks a lot.
